3 layers of rewards on one dinner bill

Most people collect only the first. Here is one $100 dinner, worked out from live card data and our point valuations.

  1. Your card's dining rate

The card earns its restaurant multiplier the moment you pay. Nothing to set up.

  2. A dining program

Join a program such as an airline's dining club and link the card: it pays its own miles or points on the same bill. A card can be in only one Rewards Network program.

  3. Card perks and credits

Some cards carry a dining credit or reservation access at certain restaurants. We list it next to the rate and never add a credit into the percentage.

6 questions, answered

How do dining rewards programs work?

A dining program such as AAdvantage Dining or Marriott Bonvoy Eat Around Town pays its own miles or points when you pay at a participating restaurant with a card you have linked to it. You join, link one or more cards, and dine as usual; the program sees the card transaction and credits your account. It is separate from your card's own rewards, so the same bill earns both.

Can I stack a dining program with my card's dining rewards?

Yes, for every program here that pays on top of your card — each program page says so. Your card earns its restaurant multiplier on the bill and the program pays separately on the same transaction: a card earning 4x with a program paying 4 points per $1 earns 400 card points and 400 program points on $100. Card credits such as a Resy credit apply as well, but they are fixed-dollar amounts, so we list them next to the rate instead of adding them to a percentage.

Can I link one card to more than one Rewards Network program?

No. Rewards Network runs the airline and hotel dining programs — AAdvantage Dining, SkyMiles Dining, MileagePlus Dining, Eat Around Town and others — and a card can be registered with only one of them at a time. If you hold several cards, link each to a different program, with your best dining card on the currency you value most. Programs outside Rewards Network have their own linking rules.

Do Resy credits need enrolment?

Some do. Where a card's published terms in our data record an enrolment step — the Delta SkyMiles Reserve's Resy credit, for example — we show "Enrolment required" beside the perk. Where they don't, we don't guess: check the issuer's terms before you count on a credit.

What does “≈ value” mean?

Points and miles are not cash, so we show them first in their own currency and then estimate a dollar value at our valuation for that currency, with the date we set it. 400 points at 1.5¢ each is about $6. A different valuation changes the dollar figure, not the points, and credits never enter the estimate.

Which card should I pay with at a restaurant?

Usually the card that earns the most tonight — the highest dining multiplier at our valuations — unless a dining credit applies there that you have not used this period. Pick your cards in any city's explorer and each restaurant shows your best way to pay, with what a dining program would add after you join.
